Personal documents you keep at home should all be stored in the same place and protected against moisture with an oilskin or in a thick plastic envelope.
A metal strongbox is practical, easy to find and can be locked. However, metal offers poor protection against heat. Unless the box is lined with asbestos, the documents contained within will be destroyed in a fire.
